Crochet Pattern: Cable Stitch Headwrap / Headband

   Crocheted Cable Stitch Headwrap

Difficulty Level:  Easy

Gauge / Finished Size:

Measure your head, or the head of the intended wearer; this will be the measurement around the head in the spot where you anticipate the headband will be placed on the head. When I measure this area on my own head, I came up with an approximate measurement of 22 inches.

Gauge:  Not important. After making your beginning chain, measure to make sure it goes around your head. Sizes Included in Pattern: One size fits most

Materials Used:

·       Cotton yarn or cotton/blend

·       I used Lily Sugar’ n Cream  (120 yards/109 meters)

·       Hook Size (s): H or I

·       Three plastic pearl beads or bead of your choice medium or large

·       2 ½ inch loop and tape or 2 (size 4) sew-on snaps

·       Tapestry Needle or sewing needle

·        thread color to match yarn color

·       Scissors

Stitches & Abbreviations Used:

·       Ch (Chain)

·       Sc (Single Crochet)

·       Dc (Double Crochet)

·       Ss (Slip Stitch)

·       St (Stitch)

·       Cable stitch (no abbreviation)

Special Stitches or Techniques Explained:

Cable Stitch 
Chain a multiple of 4+3.  Single crochet in the second chain from your hook, and in each chain across. Chain 3, turn. [Skip the next stitch, and double crochet in the next 3. Insert your hook (from front to back) in the stitch you skipped, and pull up a (very) loose loop. Yarn over, bring loop to front and draw through both loops on your hook.]

For consecutive rows of the Cable Stitch, you should put a row of Single Crochet between each cable stitch row, and repeat the instructions in brackets.

Pattern Beginning:  Starting point chain to length to fit comfortably around your head plus over lap for space to add snaps or Velcro. (I crocheted  24 plus 3 (since the cable stitch is in multiples of 4) as to fit my head.
 Row 1:  Single crochet (SC) in each stitch.  Chain one and turn.
 Row 2:  Single crochet across row.  Chain two and turn.
 Row 3:  Double crochet in each single crochet stitch.  Chain 2 and turn.  

Row 4:  Begin the Cable stitch: Single crochet in the second chain from your hook, and in each chain across. Chain 3, turn. [Skip the next stitch and double crochet in the next 3. Insert your hook (from front to back) in the stitch you skipped, and pull up a (very) loose loop. Yarn over, draw through both loops on your hook.]  End with a double crochet. 

Row 5:  Single crochet across the row.  Chain 1, and turn.

Row 6:  Repeat row 4, end with a double crochet stitch.  Chain 2. Turn

Row 7: Then crochet a row of single crochet. Chain 1, turn.

Row 8:  Repeat row 4 then a row of single crochet.

Row 9:  Single crochet across row.

Row 10:  Cable stitch across row. End with a double crochet. Chain  2. Turn

Row 11:  Double crochet across the row.

Row 12:  Single crochet across the row.

Finish Off   (F/O).  Use crochet hook to tuck in loose ends of yarn.

Finishing Instructions/Assembly:  Cut hook & loop tape to sew on end. Make sure it overlaps.  (Check my blog post for tutorial)

OR

Sew on two snaps to ends.

Crocheted Flower

Pattern Beginning:  Measure 7 inches of yarn, knot the beginning, then using a size 9/1.40 mm OR size 10/1.30mm size crochet hook, thread 3 beads on the yarn.  Push beads to the end.  Measure up 5 inches and begin the foundation crochet stitch. Do not cut off yarn holding the beads.

***You may decide to skip this part and sew your beads onto the    flower when you have finished crocheting the flower. ***

Row 1: Single Crochet Foundation Crochet Stitch:  Check my video tutorial Foundation Crochet Stitch Tutorial.  I crocheted 35 (thirty-five) stitches (You may want your chain short or longer)

Row 2:  Chain two. Half double crochet around the foundation row (1x). Double crochet (2X) Triple crochet (2x). Double crochet (2x). Half double crochet. Then single crochet into chain.

Repeat row 1 across the length of the foundation row to form the petals.

Form row of “petals” in a spiral so there are as many rows that you want your flower to have. (My flower had four rows) Sew petals onto the headband/head wrap.  Add your beads to the center.
